Ps 127:1 “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Proverbs 10:16 “The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.” Proverbs 13:11 “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” Proverbs 14:23 “In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.” Proverbs 21:25 “The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.” We live in era of entitlement. So many feel that they are justified in being lazy and expecting to possess everything. However, the only way to have real success is to work hard and be determined to achieve your goals. The verses quoted about certainly declare that heart of God in reference to the labour of man. Barbara Bush said, “You just don’t luck into things. You build them step by step, whether it’s friendships or opportunities.” This Labor Day weekend should remind and challenge us to work hard with all diligence and seriousness.
