Acts 12:5 “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.” The book of Acts is such an exciting book. It records the early beginning of the church. God was moving in a powerful way and people from all walks of life were gloriously saved. However, there was great persecution also. Peter is apprehended and cast into prison. Consequently, the church goes to prayer. God hears their prayers and miraculously delivers Peter from jail. James 5:17 “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” Elias was no different from you and me. He simply was a man who had the power of God through prayer. Acts 16:25 “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” Prayer brings us into the presence of God and generates great expressions of praise. Paul and Silas were not overwhelmed by suffering in prison. They had entered into the presence of God through prayer. E.M. Bounds said, “God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil.”. Brethren, let us pray!
