David’s desire in Psalm 5:1 “Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.” The word “meditation” means to reflect, muse, or study. The Psalms declare some very interesting concepts in regards to this matter of mediation. Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” Thus, are my thoughts and interests acceptable to God? Psalm 49:3 “My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.” Do I really grasp an understanding of life based on the character of God? Psalm 104:34 “My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.” Are my desires consumed with the sweetness of my Savior, Jesus Christ? Psalm 119:97 “O how love I thy Law! it is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:99 “I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.” Is the Word of God first and foremost in all my plans and experiences in life? David had to face many challenges and tribulations. Consequently, he made a conscious effort to keep his meditations right.
