Psalm 109:1-4 “Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.” David was a man who truly understood the oppression of the wicked. He would show kindness to Saul and would be hated for it. His love for his God would be misunderstood and opposed. He is described in Acts 13:22 “I have found David…a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.” We live among people who have no concept of what it means to love God. The sad truth is that many Christians do not comprehend what it means to have total devotion to God. It is far too often that their words cut to the heart and soul of the committed Christian. The desire to do good is regarded as evil. The sweetness of Christ is despised and rejected. In this adverse climate, David said, “But I give myself unto prayer.” Prayer is a place of solitude in the presence of God. Prayer is a refuge where you can experience the goodness of God. And prayer releases the power of God. So, Christian, when evil, hateful words wound your soul, go to God in prayer. Jonah 2:7 “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.”
