I Corinthians 7:3 “Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.” The word “benevolence” means to show good will or kindness. It has been said that “Marriages don’t break; they erode over time. ‘Each time a sarcastic or hurtful remark goes without repair or apology some of the bond that holds a couple together washes away. Each time a spouse fails to identify an emotional need of the other and attend to it, a little more glue disappears. Each time a conflict is avoided because the couple despairs of constructive discussion and resolution there is more erosion.’” The Apostle Paul address this very important relationship builder between a husband and a wife = “be kind, nice, and loving towards each other.” Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Strong relationships are built upon good communication. If we love one another, then we will be willing to review, resolve, and repair any conflict that develops in our marriage. Matthew 19:6 “Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” We must live in light of our eternal relationship: “…and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” I Peter 3:7b
