Memorial Day is a time set aside to remember those who have given their lives in defense of this great country. We understand that freedom is never really free. The freedoms that we enjoy come with a very high price tag. As a Christian, the freedom from sin is enjoyed through the death of Jesus Christ on Mount Calvary. We understand that there is more to life than just in the physical realm. There is everlasting life that can be experienced through faith in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for us. We know that the Apostles and believers in the early church suffered much persecution and laid down their lives for Jesus Christ. Throughout history there have been many Christians that have been martyred for their faith and service of Christ. Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” In order for us to remain a free nation, it will require a spirit of sacrifice and commitment to defend the freedoms that we enjoy. However, in order to help others find real, eternal freedom, it will require a spirit of sacrifice and comment to share the hope we have by faith in Jesus Christ. This Memorial Day may we not just remember those who died to give us national freedom; but may we remember those who have died to give us Spiritual freedom.
