Joel 1:15 “Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.” Joel 2:1 “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand.” The corruption that we witness day by day in this world is merely a sign that we are rapidly approaching the “Day of the Lord.” It will not be a pleasant experience for the heathen. For it is a day of judgement. It is the outpouring of God’s wrath on a wicked and perverse people. However, the Christian has a greater hope and expectation. I Thessalonians 4:16-18 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” We are not looking for the undertaker; but rather, the upper taker. We are not waiting for the grim reaper; but rather, the great Redeemer. We are not fearful of an unreserved wrath; but rather, we anticipate a preserved reward. Luke 21:28 “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
