Daniel 9:3 “And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel was well aware of the condition of Israel. God would give him a vision of the destruction of Jerusalem. He response would be on of brokenness and confession. He understood that the one he must turn to was God. Thus, he pursues God with fasting and in sackcloth and ashes. A position of complete surrender and dependence. The disciples would question how Jesus Christ would cast out a demon when they had no power to do so. Mark 9:29 “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” Real power to face and stand against the demonic influences in this world requires of us to go to God through prayer and fasting. Fleeing to God in an attitude of desperation. Knowing that if God does not come through, we of all men most miserable. Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Anxiety and distress are removed as we dwell in the shadow of the almighty in prayer. Strength is experienced as we are grafted into the power of God through prayer. Real joy is birthed by the presence of God in prayer.
